'PRAJNA VARDHINI - Institute of Human Excellence

Ramakrishna Math, Pune, started a small organization called the Vivekananda Balak Seva Sangh in the year 1990 to inculcate basic moral and spiritual values for children. The admission to the Balak Sangh was restricted to boys only from the neighbouring slums and below-poverty families. After a few years, we have started giving them daily pulses and milk for nutrition. A Yuvak Sangh was also created to accommodate these children who have grown up to their teens.

BACKGROUND - Many of the youth from Yuvak Sangh and the surrounding areas, due to prevailing family conditions are forced to drop out of schools, or, at best study to their 10th or 12th standard. With no proper educational qualifications, many of these youth have very poor self-esteem and hence are not able to communicate their abilities to potential employers for lack of self-confidence. It is indeed a good sign that these youth are very well-behaved with good moral values due to their association with the Math since their childhood, but is disheartening to see the rampant unemployment among them. Even the few who have managed to become graduates and post-graduates are in search of opportunities for many months, if not years. So it is with this idea that we started a separate Institute of Human Excellence to cater to their specific needs.

PURPOSE OF ESTABLISHMENT- We have started the institute to attend to the immediate needs of the youth, especially for those with a weak financial background. We wish to make them financially secure by training them either for exclusive self-employment or by providing them skills to aid them in their job search.

OBJECTIVES: The Objectives of Prajnavardhini are as follows:
(1) To facilitate career counseling for the members.
(2) To organize various need-based value-added courses on a variety of subjects, for the purpose of training and overall personality development.
(3) To organize a placement cell to help the members with their employment.
(4) To organize entrepreneurship development programs so that the members with potential for self-employment may be recognized and transformed into budding entrepreneurs.
(5) To develop links with reputed institutes in Maharashtra and throughout India and use their expertise for running value-added courses.
(6) To organize industrial visits, study-tours and other such activities for the members to better acquaint them with the business world.
(7) To organize seminars, conferences, workshops, training camps, guest lectures, etc., on various topics beneficial to the members.

STRUCTURE OF THE HUMAN EXCELLENCE PROGRAMME -
This programme has been divided into three different stages, each with a specific aim.
STAGE  1 - BASIC COURSE :
The candidate will undergo an intensive program covering the following areas:
(1)    Spoken and written English.
(2)   General Knowledge - In order to make the candidate more knowledgeable, he will be exposed to a variety of fields such as Geography, History, Social Sciences, Environment Awareness, Basic Scientific knowledge etc..
(3)    Personality Development Programme which will focus not only on the internal, but also the external personality aspects like -
*   Interview Techniques           * Presentation Skills
*   Group Discussions              * Etiquette Training
We have fixed a time-frame of 4 months for this stage.  We intend to conduct daily classes for these candidates at our premises itself for two hours in the evenings. Many good faculty members from reputed institutions will be arranged to conduct the classes.

STAGE 2 - NEED BASED COURSES:
After the candidate completes the first stage, then he will be put through a set of aptitude tests to gauge his overall progress from the first stage. The results will be analysed and the candidate will be given career counseling by expert psychologists. The member will be then allowed to choose from the following need-based courses for skill improvement. The objective of framing these courses is to increase the candidate's employability. The courses will be conducted in reputed institutions, training schools, small-scale industries etc... We may also sponsor some needy candidates for certain courses.
Subsequent to completion of this stage, the candidate may seek employment outside or may instead wish to be self-employed by his own efforts.
The list is not exhaustive. Many other courses will be added as and when avenues for training and help arrive. Here is a small list which may be suggested for the members:
Event Management, TV Mechanic, Interior Decoration, X-Ray Technician, ECG etc., Travel & Tourism, Front Door Management, Electrical Services, Customer Relation Management, Mobile Repairing Course, Certificate Course in First Aid

STAGE 3 - Placement Stage:
The candidates, who have completed the first two stages of training, will be eligible for placement. Personnel and HRD managers from industries will be invited to carry out campus interviews for these trained candidates. The candidates will be inducted for employment in such organizations, if found suitable.
Summarizing, the institute shall serve as a medium to help the needy youth in their search for employment.
