Swami Vivekananda Balak Seva Sangha

The Ramakrishna Math, Pune was affiliated to the Ramakrishna Math and Mission, Belur Math in the year 1984. After affiliation, we found that many boys in the age group of 8-15 were staying in the neighbourhood slums. Most of the parents of these themselves were illiterate and living a life of extreme poverty. Thus the children were exposed to dangerous evils like drinking, drugs etc. in their young age itself.

Aware of this problem, we resolved to groom these children by giving them positive values from their young days itself. We instituted the ‘Swami Vivekananda Balak Seva Sangh’ in the Math and requested parents to send their kids to the Math daily. After initial reluctance, the parents have gradually begun trusting us in our mission of working for the betterment of their children. Regular Medical check up of these boys is done free of charge in the Polyclinic & Diagnostic centre of the Math. Necessary medical treatment, as and when required, is provided on the merit of the case.

Computer Institute

Ramakrishna Math Computer Institute is a place where new technology can be studied in a spiritual environment.

We train students in different courses which are practical and needful. All catagory students like children,teenagers, middle aged and senior citizens are benefited by the computer training. Computer traning batches starts at 8.00am in the mornig and ends at 8.00pm in the evening.

We have well qualified staff working throughout the day and best for their students. A peaceful atmosphere and well equipped computer lab helps students to learn properly.

Highlights

Study center for youth, preparing for compitetive exams
Free Tuition Classes for students from 4^th to 11^thstd.
Computer Training in MS-CIT certification
Training for 4^th to 7^th std. students for scholarship and for the examinations of the Tilak Maharashtra University. Last year, four students gained success in Maths and one in Sanskrit examinations.
Moral Story books, magazines are made available to the students to increase their interest in reading.
Excursion to Airpot, Empress Garden, Shivatharghal, to make students familiar with the outside world.
To make children familiar with business and marketing skills, sales of Diwali Greeting Cards and groceries were arranged within the math campus.
Cultural Programs are conducted like Ganesh Festival, Dahi Handi, etc.

Math provides the facility of study room for the students having no space for the studies. The serene, calm & encouraging environment of Math is very congenial for studies. Students get benefitted from it. Approximately 90 students use the study room at a time, and app. 300 students are admitted in the study room in different batches. Proper & sufficient ventilation & light arrangement is provided. The study timing is from 7 am to 6.30 pm.

Competition for Students

The Math regularly organizes competitions for school children on various topics to inculcate good values and awareness of India’s spiritual and Cultural Heritage. These competitions include a recitation competition for Primary School Children in Sanskrit, Marathi and English, Elocution competitions in Marathi and English for secondary school children. In addition, Drawing competition for Children from 3rd to 8th Standard is conducted in 3 different age groups.

Rural Development

Followed by medical services, the Math has started an educational project for the students in Kharawade, a village, 35 Km away from Pune. Free coaching classes in Mathematics and English are provided for all the students from std. 1 to 6. There is, also, a constant effort for developing their talents in the fields like arts and sports. Six lady-teachers from Pune volunteer for this project visits Karawade on every Saturday.
There has been improvement in the attendance of the students from 30 in 2007, above 50 in 2008, and around 70 students in the year 2009-10.

A small program of reciting sanskrit shlokas by these students was well appreciated by the participants of Spiritual Retreat held a math campus. In addition to this, there is a computer training centre functioning for the youngsters. Presently, the basic computer knowledge and MS-Office courses are being taught, so as to make them computer literate.
